Parents, carers and the community

As a parent or carer, you are an important part of our school community. We offer a range of services to support you and your family.

Counselling for families

The school counsellor can assist when families undergo a trauma or big change. Contact us to make an appointment. For information in community languages, see school counselling service.

Outside of the education system, free telephone counselling services are available to support families who may be going through a difficult time.

  • Lifeline – 24-hour telephone counselling service. 13 11 14.
  • Mensline Australia – 24-hour telephone counselling service for men. 1300 789 978.
  • Parent line – 24-hour advice and information service. 1300 1300 52.

Interpreting and translations

We will help you communicate with our school. If you’d like an interpreter for a school meeting, let us know and we will arrange one, if available.

If you don’t speak or understand English well and want to contact us, call TIS National on 131 450 and ask for an interpreter in your language. The operator will call the school and get an interpreter to help. This service is free.

For more information, listen in your language.

Visit the department’s translated documents section for important information that’s relevant for your child’s education in many languages.

Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C)

Our Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) is made up of parents and carers, teachers and community members. The P&C meets regularly to contribute to decision-making, developing policies and management plans as well as fundraising.

Parent portal and mailing list

The parent portal is part of the school's intranet and will be a place parents can go to access school-related information about their children.

Initially, the portal will display a copy of your student's personal details such as home address, parent and emergency contact details, which you will be able to check. It is also planned that during the year additional modules such as student academic reports, NAPLAN results, parent-teacher interview bookings, copies of school documents and newsletters, student timetables, attendance records and medical records that have been provided to the school will also be made available to parents to view during the year.

We believe that the information provided by this service will be of benefit to parents.

To register for access, please visit the Galston High School parent portal website to register and fill in your details. Once your details have been correctly matched to a student, we will approve your account and provide you with an individual security key. If we are unable to match your details to a student, we will contact you individually to verify your access. Please note that we are unable to match incoming Year 7 students until they started school the following year. These applications will be processed at the beginning of each year.

If you are not a parent of a current student but still wish to receive general information about the school such as newsletters, please send an email to galstonhighschool@gmail.com and we will add you onto the relevant email list. Please note that we do not pass your details onto any third parties and you can un-subscribe at any time.

You may need to initially check your junk and spam mail folder just in case the emails are directed there. If this does happen, please tell your email program that emails from this address are not spam.

All other normal email enquires should be sent to the normal school email which is located at galston-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au.
